Apparel are everyday items usually worn by the human being. Clothing is usually made up of cloths or textiles but in recent times has also included clothing made of animal skins or other thin, transparent sheets of material put together creatively. The wearing of such apparel is mostly confined to human beings and though is a very significant feature of human societies, it is also a feature found in other animal societies also. Such animal societies include that of sheep and goat, cats and dogs, and so on.
In the past, only the animals were the ones who wore attire and for a reason, that is so that they could keep themselves warm in the winter seasons. Nowadays, this concept has undergone modification a bit with the use of garments created for fashion and style purposes. Different kinds of fashion and style garments are worn by both men and women, minors too, as a matter of fact. In order to broaden the market of such apparel, different kinds of apparel are manufactured. The different kinds of apparel are again divided into two categories: general apparel and apparels.
General apparel are those which can be worn by anyone and have universal appeal and application like T-shirts, trousers, shorts, skirts and jackets. On the other hand, apparels are those apparel which have definite utility like coats, jackets, pants, and skirts, for instance. It is also important for the consumer to be able to choose the right size of apparels so that it can be worn easily by the target market.
Apparel, like any other type of clothes, is measured by its dimensions or measurements, not by the popularity or fashion statement made by an individual. The common dimensions that are commonly used for apparel are X-L, S, M, W, H and bust. These three measurements are used because they specify the dimensions of clothes that we wear on a daily basis, in the same way that we would know our street address or apartment number. Hence, it would be very easy for an individual to locate himself in the appropriate category irrespective of what kind of clothes he is wearing.
The dress code or attire code is another aspect of apparel that is discussed in detail in articles on attire. For instance, in an evening party, a male should always wear a suit while a woman should always dress in evening dress. Similarly, there are various other rules regarding the size of dresses as well as the matching shoes and handbag to be worn along with the attire.
As mentioned above, the term ‘apparel’ refers to clothes that we wear and not to the items or articles of apparel used for decoration. However, we can conclude that the term ‘old French’ is also applicable to the term ‘clothes’ in the modern era as we see it. Hence, Old French Apparel may also be used to describe the modern day fashions. However, it is suggested that you do not make this error as Old French Apparel was a way of life for the people belonging to that era and without which they would not have survived for so long.
